May I submit one application for two or more positions?
You must submit a separate application for each position applied for. However, you may apply for more than one position at a time.

How often are positions advertised?
Generally, Chatham County advertises vacant positions weekly, beginning on Thursday and ending on Wednesday of the following week. You may check our website, Job Information Line, Cable 16 Government Channel or office bulletin board for updated job information.

Are paper applications accepted?
Paper Applications will no longer be accepted. Applications are accepted online only.

Will I be required to take any tests
Most clerical and administrative positions require a clerical and/or typing test during the interview process. The clerical test is a four part test in the areas of a) Arithmetic, b) Checking, c) Filing, and d) Language. The typing tests are computer based with a speed minimum of 25 words per minute. Testing requires an appointment.

How long are my test scores valid?
Once the applicant has passed the Clerical Test, the test remains valid and need not be re-taken unless the test itself has been changed. Typing test scores are valid for 1 year.

What happens after I apply for a position?
All applications that meet minimum requirements are sent to the hiring department. The hiring department will contact candidates for interviews.

Who should I contact if I'm interested in employment with the Chatham County Health Department, Chatham Area Transit or the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services?
These are separate organizations from Chatham County Government. Please contact these organizations directly to learn more about their job opportunities and recruiting processes.

Does Chatham County offer special preference to veterans?
There is no special preference offered to any particular group, however, veterans, as well as females, minorities and disabled applicants are encouraged to apply for positions.

How will I know if a position has been filled?
Human Resources will e-mail each applicant with information on the status of the position applied for.

Federal E-Verify Program

Chatham County Government participates in the Federal E-Verify Program which is an internet based system that allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. 

Chatham County is required to post its Federal ID Number and the date of registration with E-Verify on its website.
